DHAKA: Opposition Chief Whip Jainul Abdin Farooque Sunday said BNP would not join the budget session of parliament keeping the 18-party leaders in jail.
“We cannot talk for the public neither against abduction and murder, Felani’s body and nor about the torture on journalists in the parliament,” he said.
The senior parliamentarian came up with the observation while addressing a human chain held in front of the National Press Club in the city.
Peshajibi Parishad organized the human chain demanding release of detained leaders, withdrawal of fake cases and rescuing Ilias Ali alive.
He said, “Restoration of caretaker government is no longer BNP’s demand but it’s of the public. The effort of removing BNP and holding a single party election will be prevented.”
The BNP lawmaker said, “The condition of the government will be worse than Ershad. The government has enlisted opposition leaders-activists and media personalities and talk-show speaker for killing,” he said.
He added: “We want to publish the list to the people.”
“Prime Minister asks us to join parliament and on the other hand she talks about holding the election under them. Why should we join there?” he said putting question.
Criticizing Prime Minister’s recent remarks, he said, “What will she teach? Rather we will teach her how to gain back caretaker government and how to hold election.”
Besides, he also demanded arrest and judgment of the police members involved with assaulting journalists on Saturday.
With Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman in the chair, the human chain was also addressed, among others, by Professor AFM Yusuf Haider, Chashi Nazrul Islam and Monir Khan.
