‘Gohine Shobdo’ at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre

DHAKA: An Evening of screening of Bangladeshi Film “Gohine Shobdo—Dark Resonance” directed by Khalid Mahmood Mithu at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Dhaka at 6:30pm on July 12.

Indira Gandhi Culture Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka in association with the State Bank of India in Bangladesh is organizing the Evening of screening which will be undertaken in the DVD format on big screen.

In the film, “Gohine Shobdo—Dark Resonance”, Khalid Mahmood Mithu recounts the story of Nura, a street beggar, who during the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh had lost one of his legs on account of paralysis when the Razakars or the anti-liberation forces had attacked him causing irreparable injury to his leg.

Nura is an extra-ordinary father who begs in the street in spite of rain and sunshine all day only to make his dream of educating his daughter Swapna in a university, a reality.

The film ends with a song where an eminent singer arranges a concert for the beggars. The beggars circle and move around singing with lamps in their hands. The life cycle is complete.

Khaled Mahmud Mithu contends that occasionally in real life, the life cycle is disturbed but it never stops. Human beings like Swapna restart a new life to commence the life-cycle once again.

The film based on a real story depicting the social crises of Bangladesh has been made by international award winning Painter and Film Director, Khalid Mahmood Mithu.

Mithu won the National Film Award for being the Best Director for this film as also other international awards in Canada, USA, and the UK.


The film screening is open for all at no entrance fee on the day.
