DHAKA: Nobel Peace Prize winner economist Dr Muhammad Yunus expressed sorrows and deep concern over attacks on Buddhists and Hindus in Ramu, Patia and Ukhia.

In a statement on Wednesday, expressing hatred and protest in this regard Dr Yunus demanded fair investigation and exemplary action against persons involved.

Dr Yunus said, “I am shocked and distracted over the attacks on Buddhists and Hindus in Ramu, Patia and Ukhia, and I am very much anxious over the matter.”

Expressing sympathy to the Buddhists and Hindus, Dr Yunus thanked them for keeping patience.

On October 1, a mob destroyed 12 Buddhist temples and monasteries and more than 50 houses in Ramu upazila of Cox`s Bazar. The violence was apparently triggered by a Facebook posting of a photo defaming the holy Quran.

Later the violence was spread to Chittagong.
