Kampala: Former Kenya captain Steve Tikolo has been appointed as the new batting coach of Uganda.
Tikolo, 41, took up the role last week after being appointed by national coach and former Kenya team-mate Martin Suji.
"We sought Tikolo on recommendation from the stakeholders` meeting held after the team returned from an unsuccessful Division 2 event last year when Uganda were relegated to Division 3," said Uganda board chairman Justine Ligyalingi. "He`s a hot property that any team will want to have as a player or coach. We are really lucky to have him here."
Tikolo, who has increasingly been at odds with the Kenya board and who retired after a wretched World Cup in 2011, said he was pleased by the reception he had received. "The board and players have shown their intentions to move forward and improve the level of their game. This is encouraging. In life you lose some and gain some. It`s just unfortunate that I have had to leave Kenya but I had to do it."
