DHAKA: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith underscored the need for diversification of export products and expansion of markets destination in a bid to achieve expected economic growth.
He came up with the observation while distributing the ‘HSBC Export Excellence Award-2011’ at a city hotel on Friday night.
Muhith said, “We have unlimited possibilities of increasing our export of goods. However, we fail to achieve the goal due to lack of multiplication of exported goods and expansion of new markets.”
“Our women labourers work hard to produce a quality goods and in exchange they get nothing. So, entrepreneurs have to consider their demands”, he added.
A total of six local companies got the award this year in five categories.
They are—Jaber and Jubayer Fabrics Limited (Readymade garments and textile), Urmi Group (Readymade garments and textile), Quality Tex Group (Situated in Export Processing Zone), Praan Group and Janata Jute Mills (Traditional and Rising) and Bay Footwear Limited (Small and Medium Industry).
