BNP`s demo on Sunday

DHAKA: Opposition BNP led 18-party alliance is set to stage countrywide demonstration Sunday protesting the government’s misrule and corruption.

Sources said the 18-party alliance has made the announcement as per their pre-scheduled programme.

The demonstration will start at 3:00pm in front of BNP’s central office at Naya Paltan in the city.

BNP, its front organizations and 18-party alliance leaders and activists are scheduled to take part at the programme.

Earlier, BNP observed countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal for six working days in protest of Ilias Ali missing, which marked scattered incidents of violence, vehicle damage and arrests in the capital as well as across the country.

On April 17, BNP Organizing Secretary of Sylhet Division and former MP M Ilias Ali went missing along with his driver.

On May 23, a Dhaka Court rejected the bail plea of 33 opposition leaders, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in cocktail explosion, vehicle vandalism and arson cases for the second time.

On may 16, a Dhaka Court asked the authority concerned to send 33 leaders of BNP-led 18-party including BNP acting secretary general Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to jail after rejecting their bail prayers.

BNP observed countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal for three consecutive days from April 22 to 24, two consecutive days from April 29-30 and May 17 in protest of Ilias Ali missing.

On May 20, BNP also observed mass hunger strike led by Chairperson Khaleda Zia demanding rescue of Ilias Ali alive and protesting abduction, killing, oppression by police and attack on opposition leaders and activists.
