DHAKA: A six-day theatre festival, to be organised by Swapnadal on its founding anniversary, will begin on August 1 on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segun Bagicha.
International Theatre Institute president Ramendu Majumdar will inaugurate the festival at 4:00pm on the day.
Dhaka Theatre and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will also participate at the festival.
The organisers at a press conference held on Monday informed media that six plays would be staged at the programme.
According to them, plays of Rabindranath Tagore, Selim Al Deen and Badal Sarkar will be staged at the festival, which will also feature exhibitions of posters and photographs, video screening, music and dance programmes and seminars.
Palakar will stage four of its productions namely, Tagore’s ‘Chitrangada’, Deen’s ‘Hargaj’ and ‘Festoone Lekha Smriti’, and Badal Sarkar’s ‘Tringshashatabdi’ at the event.
Deen’s ‘Nimajjan’ and ‘Putra’ will be staged by Dhaka Theatre and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy respectively at the festival.
On the concluding day of the festival, the organisers will mark the Hiroshima Day with several programmes.
