CHITTAGONG: The four-member probe body formed to investigate the girder collapse incident of an under-construction flyover of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) submitted its report on Tuesday.
Chief of the probe committee and chief engineer of CDA Nasir Uddin handed over the probe report to CDA chairman Abdus Salam.
While submitting the report, Nasir Uddin said, “The report identified one reason behind the collapse of the girder. Five recommendations were made for avoiding such incidents.”
He informed that the construction authority used wood in order to support the girder before taking it into final position. The girder collapsed as the wood weakened after being soaked by rain.
The CDA official said that they have made five recommendations including employing skilled worker and keeping system of alternative support.
Earlier on June 29, a concrete girder fell from an under-construction flyover at Bahaddarhaat in the port city.
The 130-foot long and seven-foot wide girder smashed into a rickshaw parked close to Chandgaon Natun Police Station at 1:20pm, leaving the rickshaw puller injured.
