MBBS, BDS admission test Nov 23

DHAKA: The admission tests of session 2012-13 under medical and dental colleges will be held on November 23.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Public Health Department Akkas Ali Sheikh confirmed the matter to banglanews on Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, the High Court directed the authorities concerned to start the admission process through tests.

The single (third) bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif passed the order after hearing a petition filed seeking its directives over admission at medical and dental colleges.

On Sunday, Deputy attorney general Motahar Hossain Sajy told banglanews, “We informed the court that the government decided to take admission test to enroll students at medical colleges.”

On August 27, two judges of a High Court bench delivered split order on a petition filed seeking its directives over admission at medical and dental colleges.

Justice Qamrul Islam Siddiqui, the senior judge of the bench, directed the authorities concern to take the admission test as per previous system while Justice M Ashraful Kamal, the Junior Judge, rejected the petition.

As per law, the chief justice sent the petition to a third HC bench for disposal of the matter.

On August 13, Supreme Court Advocate Dr Yunus Ali Akanda filed the writ petition making the government, education secretary and director general of Health Department defendants.

On August 12, the government decided to take admission in MBBS and BDS degrees for public and private medical colleges of the country without admission test.

The students who expect to take admission in medical colleges can take admission as per their results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), according to the new decision.

On August 14, the High Court issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why the decision of taking admission in medical colleges without tests should not be declared illegal.

An HC bench comprising of Justice Naima Hayder and Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam passed the order in response to a writ petition filed challenging the government’s decision.
