DHAKA: Finally, Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) gets new office to carry out their operation.
Tourism Board started operation in September without office. Initially, it had to work in a single room at Civil Aviation Ministry at Bangladesh Secretariat. Later, the temporary office was shifted to Gulshan-1 in the city in this month.
An officer of tourism board told banglanews that it was difficult to work 10 members in a single room at the secretariat. We were looking for a suitable house in Paltan area in the city. But, however, we didn’t get it in that area.
BTB formed in September with participation of private sector will start functioning soon aiming at branding the country as an exciting tourist destination through conducting huge promotional activities.
Finance ministry allocated fund to set up a separate office, it didn’t get office according to their wish.
Shafique Alam Mehdi told banglanews that after getting the office in Gulshan-1 for the board, we have started working in full swing.
The tourism secretary said the board is working as a bridge between the government body and the private sector, which helps increase investment in the tourism sector.
The board was formed last month under `Bangladesh Tourism Board Act- 2010`, headed by the Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Shafique Alam Mehdi as the chairman.
The board gave Tk seven crore as sponsorship money to the ICC for showing the country brand “Beautiful Bangladesh" at its all publicity materials for promoting tourism of Bangladesh.
The 17-member board, headed by Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Shafique Alam Mehdi as its chairman, is responsible for promotion, development and policy formulation of the tourism sector.
