DHAKA: Awami League lawmaker of Dhaka-7 constituency Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin said the Hindu community could not observe freely their main religious festivals including Janmashtami at Dhakeshwari Temple during the four-party alliance regime.
Nonetheless, we did not consider over our religious backgrounds during the Liberation War, as we together liberated the country, he added.
He came up with the allegation while addressing a meeting centering Janmashtami at city’s Dhakeshwari Temple on Friday.
The parliamentarian said we fought in response to the call of Bangabandhu. There was no religious filter. The purpose was only to liberate the country.
He said BNP obstructed the Hindus from holding religious festivals as it is not a secular party.
He said, right now, all communities in the country can perform their religious activities freely as AL believes in secularism.
With Mahnagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee president Basudeb Dhar in the chair, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission Professor Swami Ameranda Maharaja, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad President Kanutosh Mazumder and general secretary Manindra Debnath also spoke in the meeting.
