Sunamganj lightening kills 13

SUNAMGANJ: At least 13 people were killed and 17 others injured in lightening strikes at village Saraswatipur under Jayashree union of Dharmapasha upazila in the district on Friday night.

The deceased were identified as Sahab Uddin, Imam of a local mosque, Manik, 50, Gafur, 65, Taher Ali, 60, Ripon, 25, Hazrat Ali, 25, Nazrul, 55, Noor Islam, 55, Moslemin, 25, Nurul Islam, 50, Badsha, 15, Anwar Islam, 25, and Abdus Salam, 29 .

Of the injured, six were rushed to Dharmapasha Upazila Health Complex.

Dharmapasha UNO Shahidul Islam confirmed banglanews about the matter over phone.

Jayashree UP chairman Mohsin Ahmed said, “Thunderclaps struck them at about 9:30pm while they were offering their tarabi prayers. The death toll may rise.”

Additional police super of the district Jafar Hossain said, “A team of police rushed to the spot immediate after getting the news.”
