DHAKA: The High Court asked the authorities concerned to arrest killers of Biswajit Das who was killed during countrywide road blockade.
The court also asked to ensure the matter so that the killers can not leave the country.
An HC bench comprising AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Farid Ahmed passed the order Tuesday following a writ petition in this regard.
Home secretary, IGP, RAB director general, deputy Inspector general of Dhaka Range, deputy commissioner of Dhaka, DMP commissioner, Dhaka Police Super, Officer-in-Charge of Sutrapur Thana and SI Jalal Ahmed were made defendants to the writ.
Inspector general of Police was asked to send this order to all airports, sea ports and land ports.
The court order reads: “The killers must be arrested within 24 hours next. And the defendants must inform the court on December 13 if they failed to arrest the culprits.”
Earlier, Advocate Dr M Yunus Ali Akand filed the public interest litigation.
In the writ, proper compensation to Biswajit’s family members was also sought.
Earlier in the morning Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir at a discussion said eight suspects in the killing of Biswajit Das.
On Sunday, Biswajit, a 24-year-old and a tailor in profession, was killed in an attack by a group of BCL leaders and activists adjacent to the capital’s Victoria Park in front of Jagannath University.
BCL activists took Biswajit, who came from Shariatpur district, for a pro-blockade activist, witnesses observed following the attack.
