15 to get JD Scholarship

DHAKA: The government signed ‘Exchange of Note’ with the Government of Japan for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) Programme for next year amounting to approximately Tk 20.39 crore.

Senior Secretary of Economic Relations Division (ERD) Iqbal Mahmood and ambassador of Japan Shiro Sadoshima singed the Exchange of Notes for their respective sides in the city Sunday.

At the same time, the ‘Grant Agreement’ was also singed by Iqbal Mahmood and Chief Representative of JICA country office Dr Takao Toda.

The government will start recruiting candidates for the 12th JDS in July this year. A total of 15 persons will be selected to study in Japan for two years from August 2013.

JDS programme was established by the Government of Japan in 2001.

The objective of this program is to support the respective Government in its efforts to facilitate its own plans for human resource development mainly for capacity building and institutional building, and thereby extend and enhance the bilateral relationship with Japan.

In the last seven years, 167 JDS fellows were sent form Bangladesh to Japan, and 127 JDS fellows have returned to Bangladesh, contributing to the development of Bangladesh.

The Government of Japan has been providing academic opportunities for the Bangladeshi Government officers to study various fields such as Public Administrations, Economics, Environment Policy and Public Relations in higher Japanese academic institutions.

It aims that after completion of their studies, they will play leading roles in the development of Bangladesh, policy making in poverty reduction and strengthening friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
