Monday’s stocks slide for day-5

DHAKA: Investors saw major fall in the benchmark indices of country’s bourses on Monday for the fifth straight trading day.

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) general index shed over 70 points to stand at 4,645 at the close on the first trading day of the week.

The volume of transactions, however, increased slightly to Tk 1,835 million from Sunday’s Tk 1,729 million. Trade deals stood at 59,265 against the previous day’s 54,098.

Of the issues traded, 35 advanced, 200 declined and 23 remained unchanged.

LAFSURCEML topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 164 million having changed hands.

The other turnover leaders were GP, LANKABAFIN, JAMUNAOIL, AFTABAUTO, MPETROLEUM, MICEMENT, KPCL, BEXIMCO and SQURPHARMA.

Chittagong stocks also followed the suit, with the CSE Selective Categories Index climbing down to 8,854 by dropping over 117 points.
 
Out of the issues traded, 11 gained, 151 declined and 11 remained unchanged.

On Sunday, the benchmark indices of DSE and CSE shed 82 and 161 points respectively.
