Channel I,NTV among 11 summoned

DHAKA: The High Court Thursday summoned 11 media, including Channel I, NTV, Bangla Vision, Amardesh, to explain their roles in receiving government plots in Tejgaon Industrial Area of the city.

Apart from this, the court summoned others nine institutions in receiving government plots in the area. They were asked to appear before the court to explain their roles in this regard on June 12.

An HC bench comprising Justice AHM Shmsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order after housing and public works ministry submitted a list of plots owners’ to the court.

Deputy Attorney General ABM Altah Hossain placed the list before the court.

On May 22, the court asked secretary of cabinet to form a probe committee to look into the matter of illegal plot allotment in city’s Tejgaon Industrial Area.

The committee was also asked to submit its report by July 15.

The Public Works Department was asked to look into whether the environment and surroundings are affected for plot allotment.

The court also directed Director General of Anti Corruption Commission to look into whether there was any corruption in plot allotment.

An HC bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim passed the order Tuesday.

The members of the probe committee are secretary of LGRD, ERD secretary, Law secretary and joint secretary of Home Ministry.

Earlier in the day, former editor of Daily Jaijaidin Shafiq Rehman and two former state ministers Ziaul Haq Zia and Major (retd) Kamrul Islam appeared before the court.

On May 16, the court summoned former editor of Daily Jaijaindin Shafiq Rehman to appear before the court on May 22 for taking allotment of plot illegally.

The court also asked opposition BNP lawmakers Ziaul Haq Zia and Major (retd) Kamrul Islam to submit a sworn statement consisting amount of assets they have in the capital.
