DHAKA: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) fined Tk 6 crore to six mobile operators for using their SIM illegally on Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) call.
A letter signed by Director of BTRC Systems and Services Department Lt Col Rakibur Rahman reads that Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi, Airtel, Citycell and state-run Teletalk were fined due to violating the rules.
Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi, Teletalk and Citycell were fined by Tk 1.07 crore, Tk 1.59 crore, Tk 53.99 lakh, 46.36 lakh and 6.55 lakh respectively.
Some 15,254 SIMs of the operators had been used for illegal call termination (illegal use of VOIP).
The mobile operators have to pay the fine within a month.
