DHAKA: Rotary Club at a press briefing Saturday informed that some one lakh children are being crippled by polio every year in the country.
Rotary Club organized the press conference at National Press Club marking 75 years of its rotary movement.
While speaking at the press meet, speakers said, “Although the country was declared polio free in 2000, the polio virus later spread again throughout the country.”
Rotary district governer Ishtiaq Zaman said, “Rotary Club is working in a bid to make the country polio free by 2013. The organization has already spent 24 million dollars in the regard.”
Rotary Club started its journey in the capital in 1937. Now some 12 lakh rotarians are serving humanitarian works through 34,00 clubs.
