DINAJPUR: The agitators at Phulbari on Sunday postponed their protest till December 31 after the deputy commissioner assured them to resolve the issue in consultation with the high-ups of the government.
Phulbari Municipality Mayor, Murtaza Sarker Manik, also a key organizer of the agitation, made the announcement of the postponement of the agitation around 2:30pm.
Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Shamim Al Razi told the agitators: “I will resolve all the problems after consultation with the high-ups of the government.”
The agitation was postponed on his pledge of resolving the crisis.
The National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports and a local non-political organization of the professionals enforced nonstop hartal at Phulbari in Dinajpur on Saturday demanding withdrawal of the letter issued by the home ministry asking to help the Asia Energy to carryout survey in Phulbari coal mine.
