DHAKA: At least nine people were killed and 19 others injured in separate road accidents in five districts on Saturday.
Gopalganj: A fish trader was killed and 12 others were injured as a minnow-laden truck turned turtle on Gopalganj-Tekerhat road in Kangsur area under sadar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Nur Islam, 50, of Alexander area in Laxmipur district.
Baultali Police Investigation Center’s SI Abdus Salam said, “A Bagerhat-bound minnow-laden truck turned turtle on the road at about 6am as its driver fell asleep while driving, killing one on the spot and injuring the others.”
The injured were rushed to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital.
Later, they were shifted to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital, Khulna Medical College Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Feni: Two people were killed as a Feni bound passenger bus of Starline Paribahan knocked down an auto rickshaw in Chhagalnaiya area around 6:30am, killing two people on the spot.
The deceased were identified as auto rickshaw owner Saidul Hoque, 35, son of Herajal Hoque of Comilla district and auto rickshaw driver Md Sadek, 30, son of Nurul Hoque of the same district.
Chhagalnaiya Thana SI Abdur Razzak said the bodies were sent to Feni Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Jhenaidah: Two motorcyclists were killed as a truck rammed them in Arappur area on Jhenaidah-Kushtia road around 10am.
The deceased were identified as Munjurul Alam, 28 and Joseph Rana, 26.
Confirming the matter Jhenaidah Sadar Thana SI Yasin Ali told banglanews, their bodies were recovered and sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue.
He added a case was filed under the thana in the connection.
Habiganj: Two persons were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a bus in Korra area of Madhabpur upazila of the District early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Ferdoush Mia, 32, son of Maulvi Abdul Gafur, hailed from Kathaldia village and Nabab Mia, 25, hailed from Lohagora village of Narail district.
Confirming the incident to banglanews, Shayestaganj Highway Thana sub-inspector Farid Mia said, police seized the vehicles but the drivers managed to flee the scene.
Comilla: At least two persons were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Taltola area of Langalkot upazila of the District on Saturday evening.
The deceased were identified as Giasuddin, 35, of Tulatuli village under Langalkot upazila and Abdur Rab, 32, of Harikot while the identities of the injured could not be known immediately.
Sub-inspector of LangalKot Thana Prashanta Pal confirmed the matter to banglanews.
