SYLHET: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said the government would take stern action if any private university does business by giving certificates only.
He came up with the warning while addressing the inaugural ceremony of North East University held at Sylhet Jalalabad Gas Bhaban auditorium Saturday.
Nahid said, the university added a new milestone in higher education as it is the first Bangladeshi university situated at the upazila.
Passing ‘Private University Act-2010’ to enhance excellence of private universities, the government asked the universities to follow some terms and conditions to maintain the quality of higher education and 50 universities acted yet accordingly, he added.
He also said government does not compel any discrimination between private and public universities while the difference is management. Government will afford utmost collaboration with the private universities like the public ones.
With the collaboration of World Bank, government is going to approve funds to higher educational institutions for their research tasks, he informed.
Around 46 colleges are conducting their HSC admission process over online, he also informed.
With North East University Trusty Board chairman advocate Iqbal Ahmad Chowdhury in the chair, vice-chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) professor Saleh Uddin Ahmed, vice-chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University professor Dr. Shahid Ullah Talukder, former vice chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Professor Dr. Sadaruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Bar Council member advocate Mishbah Uddin Siraj, Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury MP and others were present in the ceremony.
