DHAKA: The World Accreditation Day was observed in the country as elsewhere in the world on Saturday with the theme of ‘Accreditation: Supporting safe food and clean drinking water’.
Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) chalked out an elaborate programme marking the day.
President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages marking the day.
The President, in his message, said the country`s products and services can earn the confidence and satisfaction of local and foreign consumers through accreditation.
In another message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the importance of accreditation is immense both home and abroad as the standard of products and services is ensured by accreditation.
A seminar on the day was held in the morning at DCCI auditorium in city’s Motijheel jointly organized by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB).
Industries Minister Dilip Barua was attend as chief guest while Industries Secretary KH Masud Siddiqui, FBCCI President AK Azad and DCCI President Asif Ibrahim were present as special guests on the occasion.
M Mamun Chowdhury of SGS Bangladesh Limited presented the keynote paper.
Dr. Franz Hengstberger, technical advisor and international metrology expert of UNIDO, and Ned Gravel, principal, MOTIVA Training of Canada, presented technical papers in the seminar.
Bangladesh Television aired a TV talk show to mark the day.
