DHAKA: Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has announced to pay TK. 100,000 as compensation for each death in Saturday’s fire at the Toba group’s garment factory at Ashulia in Savar.
Besides, it will ensure better treatment of the injured garment workers.
BGMEA acting president Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman came up with the announcement while talking to banglanews on Sunday morning.
He said, “BGMEA will give TK. 10, 0000 to the families of the dead and take all possible step to ensure proper treatment of the injured.”
Earlier on Saturday evening, the devastating fire broke out at a garments factory of Toba Group at Ashulia under Savar upazila. Many workers were trapped in the factory during the fire.
The death toll from the massive fire rose to 115 on Sunday.
Fire Service director (Operation) Major Mahbub confirmed the matter to banglanews.
He said, “The rescue operation is underway and army troops joined the salvage efforts at about 8am Sunday.”
“The death toll may rise further”, he added.
