Railway bridge to be built over Jamuna

DHAKA: The government will build a railway bridge over the mighty Jamuna River to improve the flow of country’s good and passengers.

The bridge will be constructed with the cost of Tk 8,200 crore aimed at meeting the regional traffic growth and improving the flow of goods and passengers.

In this regard, construction of dual gauge double-track Railway Bridge in the project concept paper (PCP) has been proposed for completing it by 2017, sources said.

Terms of Reference (ToR) and Feasibility Study of the project have been sent to the Public Private Partnership (PPP) office regulated by the Prime Minister’s Office after a decision on May 16, 2012, sources further said.

The project will be sent to the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) for approval in principle.

The railway bridge will link between the eastern and western parts of the country.

Moreover, the project will establish link with trans-Asia highway and rail, facilitating movement of goods from Nepal, Bhutan and Northeastern India to and through Bangladesh, sources added.
