DHAKA: A play titled ‘Tarhak’ will be staged at 7:00pm on June 6 at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segun Bagicha.
The play, to be performed by a group belonging to ‘sexual minority’ called ‘Samparker Naya Setu’, will be produced by Bengal Foundation.
The organisers informed media at a press conference at Bengal Shilpalaya Tuesday.
Theatre group Nandanik Natya Sampradaya’s general secretary AMM Hasanuzzaman, Bengal Foundation’s director general Luva Nahid Chowdhury, ‘Samparker Naya Setu’ president Jaya Shikdar and ‘Tarhak’ director Anisul Haque Barun spoke at the conference.
Bengal Foundation senior coordinator (programme) Sarwar Jahan readout a written statement at the conference.
The speakers said that the play would narrate the story of struggling life of ‘sexual minority’ people.
They also hoped that play would encourage the minority people and create hope among them, who maintain life as sex-workers.
A 10-minute documentary will be screened before staging the play and eminent rights activist Khushi Kabir will speak at the programme.
