DHAKA: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) described the report of US-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) about the trial of mutineers as “illogical, baseless and motivated”.
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) made the assertion in a statement Friday.
Expressing profound concern over the report, BGB said the HRW
Dishonored to the existing laws of the country demanding suspension of the trial of mutineers for their bloody revolt on February 25-26 in 2009, that killed 74 people, including 57-army officials.
Describing it as an ill-motive, BGB said, the remarks of HRW would help create negative image about Bangladesh in international arena and misunderstanding about the border security force.
The statement said the trial of mutineers is now being held in line with the Supreme Court directives as it suggested for holding the trial under the Code of Criminal Procedure for murders, arsons and lootings and under Bangladesh Rifles Order, 1972, for mutiny.
Defending the HRW remarks about death of some mutineers under custody, the statement said all the mutineers under custody are enjoying facilities under the Jail Code-1926 and some of them were died of different diseases and old-age complications.
