Shab-e-Barat being observed

DHAKA: The holy Shab-e-Barat or the night of fortunes is being observed across the country Thursday night with devotees seeking divine blessings for the wellbeing of mankind as well the Muslim Ummah.

On the occasion, waz mahfil and zikr is bing held in all mosques in capital Dhaka and across the country while different socio-cultural organizations will hold discussions and milad mahfils.

The devout Muslims are spending the night at mosques and homes offering prayers, reciting from the holy Quran and seeking blessings from Allah.

The devotees across the country are visiting graves and praying for the peace of the departed souls of beloved ones who are no more. Many are also visiting the mazars, shrines of saints all over the country.

Islamic Foundation organized waz mahfil, recitation from the Holy Quaran, milad mahfil, zikr, and other religious rituals at night to mark the occasion with due solemnity.  

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private TV channels are broadcasting special programmes while newspapers will publish articles highlighting the significance of the night.

Muslims consider the night as one of three most sacred nights and believe that on this night Almighty Allah decides the fate of all human beings fixing their `rizq` (livelihood) for the next year.

President M Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages felicitating Muslims on the occasion.

In his message, President Zillur Rahman said the holy Shab- e-Barat is imminent with the message of fortune for the mankind.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, called upon all to be devoted to human welfare and nation-building, being inspired with the teachings of Shab-e-Barat.
