DHAKA: Opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia condemned the attack by assailants on bdnews24.com journalists in front of its Amtoli office in the city`s Mohakhali on Monday night.
Quoting BNP office sources, banglanews special correspondent Mannan Maruf said that Khaleda Zia mentioned the attack as an attack on overall media.
“The incident proved that the law-and-order situation of the country has been deteriorated,” said Khaleda Zia.
The opposition leader also urged the government to take stern action against the criminals involved with the attack.
At least eight journalists of bdnews24.com, an online news agency, were injured following an attack of criminals in front of its Amtoli office in the city`s Mohakhali on Monday night.
The incident took place on the fifth floor of the Building-99 near the Government Bon Bhaban (Forest Building) around 9pm.
bdnews24.com Sub-Editor Newaz Mohammed Rifat and Correspondent Salahuddin Wahid Pritom received serious injuries in their legs.
They were rushed to the United Hospital in the city.
bdnews` chief editor Taufiq Imroj Khaledi told banglanews that a group of terrorist attacked on his colleagues and stabbed them.
Criminals attacked Ruhul Amin, an employee of Bangladesh`s first internet newspaper, around 8:30pm when he was staying outside of the building.
On information, the journalists from the office rushed to his aid and captured the criminal and handed him to police.
Angered at this, the local criminals, armed with sharp weapons, swooped on the journalists.
The criminals opened the shutter of ground floor and attacked the newsmen. Rifat and Pritom were stabbed indiscriminately in the legs.
