DHAKA: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed Saturday said the President would determine the head of the government during general elections.
He said, “British PM requests Queen to dissolve parliament before holding polls. According to the rule, Queen makes a small cabinet. As we believe on West Minister type democracy, Justice Khairul Haque explained the issue of formation of government during general election in his verdict on 13 th amendment of the parliament.”
The minister came up with comment while addressing an inaugural ceremony of workshop of district judges on Vested Property Returned Act at Judicial Administration Training Institute in the morning.
Regarding dissolve of the parliament before 42 days of holding polls, Shafique said, “A small cabinet will be formed comprising elected persons before six weeks of holding elections after dissolving the parliament.
They will manage daily activities of the state. For the interest of polls, concerned officials-staffers would go under the election commission.”
In reply to a query about wrong explanation over parliament dissolve in parliament placed by the PM, Barrister Shafique said, ‘ The prime minister placed right explanation.”
Earlier on September 19, Hasina said that president would take decision whether parliament remains or dissolves.
“In the parliamentary system, the head of the government proposed for election to the president and then the president directed to hold the election. The polls will not be held keeping current parliament.
With Institute acting director general Md. Mofiozul Islam in the chair, the programme was also addressed, among others, by Law state minister Quamrul Islam, Supreme Court ex-justice Syed Amirul Islam and Law secretary Abu Saleh Md. Jahirul Haque.
