DHAKA: Bangladesh Railway on Tuesday introduced the electronic ticketing service to ease the sufferings of passengers.
Communications and rail minister Obidul Quader formally inaugurated the service at the conference room of railway ministry on Tuesday noon.
From now on, rail passengers will be able to purchase electronic railway tickets from internet using credit, debit and visa cards.
While inaugurating the service, the minister said, “This initiative will help us to fulfill our dream of building digital Bangladesh.”
“We have introduced the service in order to ease the sufferings of people”, he added.
Initially Bangladesh Railway (BR) would keep 10 percent of its tickets reserved for e-ticketing, said the minister.
The service will also help curb the malpractice of touting train tickets," said Railway director general Abu Taher.
