DHAKA: The population of the country stands at 15.25 crore as per the 5th Population and Housing Census 2011 released at Bangabhaban on Monday.
As per the final report, of the total population, males are 7, 63, 50,518 and females 7, 61, 67,497 and the population growth is 1.37.
President Mohammad Zillur Rahman unveiled the census report prepared by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics at its website at about 12:30pm.
Earlier on July 16, 2012, the Planning Ministry published the preliminary report of the census, conducted on March in the same year.
According to the primary report, country’s population now stands at 14.23 crore and 19 thousand by official count, conducted during the latest census, and continues to grow at a rather high rate of 1.34 percent per annum.
The Fifth Population and Household Census report says the country’s population size as 14, 231, and 9000.
Of the total population, 7 crore 12 lakh 55 thousand are male and 7 crore 10 lakh 64 thousand female.
The census report shows the male-female ratio as 103.3:100. That means there are 100.3 men against 100 women.
As estimated, the population growth is 1.34 percent and the density of population is 964 per square-kilometer.
According to the preliminary report, there are some 32,067,700 families in the country and the average members of a family are 4.4.
The Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) was assigned the task of post-enumeration scrutiny to determine errors in the coverage and content of the census. They found 3.97 percent were left out of the census count.
The BBS prepared the final results after reviewing the preliminary counts and adjusting the errors.
