Biman seeks govt help for facing financial crisis

DHAKA: The authority of Biman Bangladesh Airlines has sought Tk. 1000 crore as assistance from the government in order to face their ongoing financial crisis.

Meanwhile, the Biman authority has appealed for Tk. 500 crore in emergency basis in order to get rid of Tk. 1500 crore lone.

The state run Airlines Company had been incurring losses for the third consecutive years and trying to overcome the situation heart and soul.

Wishing anonymity, a number of Biman high officials confirmed banglanews about the sensitive matter.

 Sources said the assistance has been sought through secretary for finance Mohammad Tarek. Biman authority has taken the decision after reviewing their present financial condition.

Biman source said they have appealed for the assistance as their entire expenditure has already been increased after buying new airplanes and giving training to engineers and pilots.

The parliamentary standing committee on civil aviation and tourism ministry has blamed the irregularity and corruption for the ongoing crisis in the airlines.

Earlier, the JS body sought explanation from Biman authority over the issue. But, Biman is yet to answer them.
