DHAKA: Energy Affairs Advisor of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Dr M Shamsul Alam categorically said the energy ministry is being unilaterally run by Prime Minister’s Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury without preserving the interest of the consumers.
“Tawfiq does not pay any attention to other advisors and they have to implement what he says,” he said.
He came up with the allegation in a view exchange meeting held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the city Saturday.
Quoting the officials of the ministry and planning commission, Shamsul Alam also said, “The opinions of other advisors are never considered during meeting.”
He added: “Country’s power sector is facing a disaster due to his wrong planning and the existing situation is out of control.”
Shamsul Alam also raised question why Tawfiq became busy to give the sea blocks to Conocophilips and now he is trying to give the coal sector to foreign companies.
CAB advisor also said, “The countrymen will try the energy criminals.”
Addressing the meeting, CAB president Quazi Faruq said, “It is illegal to hike power price and we will take punitive action against it.”
CAB president also said the existing policy of hiking power price to control situation is wrong while there are other ways to do so and it is only increasing the sufferings of the common people of the country.
