Avant Garde wins BD CIMA GBC

DHAKA: Team Avant Garde from IBA Dhaka University won the Bangladesh final of the CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) Global Business Challenge (GBC) 2012.

Avant Garde will now represent Bangladesh at the global final in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 23 and 24 July, which promises to be a thrilling event.

The CIMA GBC 2012 is an international business management competition designed to bring out the very best in the next generation of business leaders by analysing a real life scenario and presenting innovative solutions.

This year, over 3,500 teams from 22 countries have taken part in the competition, of which over 123 teams registered for the Bangladesh GBC.

Avant Garde, 4 girls team competed against the best teams in the country at the regional final on May 25, 2012 at a Local Hotel to become Bangladesh champions and secure a place at the global final.

The teams were judged on their analytical, presentation skills and their creativity.  

Avant Garde was most impressive. They received a cash amount of BDT 60,000 in addition to an all expenses paid trip to Sri Lanka.

Radley Stephen, Country Head Sri Lanka and Regional Business Development Head at CIMA, quoted, “I am absolutely delighted to be involved with the GBC Bangladesh country finals for the 3rd consecutive year.”

Having met with the teams and officials this year there is no doubt that the competition has progressed year on year and, that its objectives in the identifying talent and promoting the development of management accounting skills amongst youth around the world under CIMA’s theme of Helping Business and people to succeed has been achieved, Radley added.

Radley said, “I wish to thank all teams that participated in the competition and congratulate team Avant Garde from the University of Dhaka and wish them the best of luck at the global finals in Sri Lanka”

CIMA will fly Avant Garde to the global final along with each winning team from Australia, Bangladesh, Mainland China, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, the Middle East, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the UK, Vietnam and Zambia.

Once there, they will present a business case to an audience of CIMA delegates and a judging panel of prestigious experts and battle it out to become the ‘Global Champion’.

The CIMA GBC provides students with a great opportunity to test the depth of their financial knowledge and expand upon their business acumen.

In addition, it has previously led to internship opportunities with numerous reputable organisations. CIMA offers an international qualification in management accountancy and is the world’s leading and largest professional body in this field.
