DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid categorically said the government has made a plan to form Higher Education Commission (HEC) for developing quality of higher education.
The education minister came up with the disclosure while addressing parliament in response to a query from lawmaker Israfil Alam.
He said, “The University Grants Commission (UGC) has submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to form the commission for the development and creating opportunity to expand of the country’s higher education.”
Nahid also told the House that it would not cost much if UGC is made Higher Education Commission.
Meanwhile, a UGC delegation has already submitted a proposed budget in this regard, he told the parliament.
In response to another question from lawmaker Nurul Islam Sujon, he said, “Excepting some exception in two or three universities, the campuses of universities are quiet than any other regime of the previous government.”
Indicating the political leaders of the country, he told the House that all the concerned have to be careful so that students are not involved unnecessarily in the politics giving up their study.
