BNP won’t join EC Dialogue

DHAKA: Opposition BNP has denied sitting with Election Commission (EC) to discuss on demarcation of the constituencies anew.

Party Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Thursday made the disclosure while talking to reporters.

He told the journalists that they sent a letter to the EC saying his party would not participate in the dialogue.

BNP was invited to sit with the EC on Sunday at 3:00pm to discuss on demarcation of the constituencies again at the EC office in the capital.

Several political parties, including National Peoples Party refrained from attending the dialogue.

In another development, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) urged the EC to cancel the registration of all the anti-liberation political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami.

Mujahidul Islam Selim, President of CPB, said that the ideology of Jamaat is contradictory to EC.

Kalyan Party Chairman Major General (retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim opined that there is no necessity of demarcation of the border of constituencies again.

He said his party would not participate in the next national polls without any caretaker government.

Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Dr Ferdous Ahmed Qureshi urged the EC not to use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the polls.
