Madrid: Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has dismissed the notion that Portugal is one of the favorites for Euro 2012.
The Seleccao are currently tied on points with Denmark in second place of Group B following Wednesday`s 3-2 victory against the Scandinavians. A victory against Netherlands on Sunday could see Portugal survive the `Group of Death`, but Mourinho believes that there are a number of teams stronger than the Euro 2004 runner-up.
"Portugal do not depend on the other teams, they depend only on themselves," he told reporters at an event in Singapore. "If they do their job against Netherlands, they will be in the quarterfinals.
"I do not think that Portugal are one of the top two or three teams in the competition. But these are small tournaments and we will soon enter the knockout stages.
"In 90 minutes - sometimes there is extra time or penalty shootout - everything is settled. As such, if Portugal reach the quarterfinals, anything can happen."
Questioned about Spain`s chances of defending their European crown, Mourinho hinted that Germany is one of the few sides which can pose La Roja a threat.
"Spain are the world champions and there is no doubt that they are favorites," he added. "They are one of the best teams at the Euros.
"If things go in the right direction, they will reach the quarterfinals. They will have to compete with Germany, and some other teams, to win the tournament."
