DHAKA: The government is going to purchase 11 middle, high-powered cutter suction dredgers and related equipments to increase dredging capacity of the country.
Bangladesh Water Development Board will buy the dredgers under the project of “Procurement of dredgers and related equipments for river dredging.”
Water Resource Ministry source confirmed it to banglanews.
The cost of the total consignment will be $1309.88 crore.
The government has chalked out short term plan (five years) mid-term plan (10 years) and long term plan (15 years) to dredge 18 rivers under short and mid term plans and Ganga, Brahmaprotra , Meghna under long-term plan to improve and restore navigability.
Besides, protection dredging would be continued to maintain result of capital dredging.
The cabinet purchase committee Wednesday approved proposal of procurement of three sets of dredgers and related equipments for river dredging. Ananda Ship-yard ltd won the bid to supply the dredgers with cost of TK 55.31 crore.
