GOPALGANJ: The ruling Awami League and opposition BNP activists locked into clashes over the tearing of banners on Eid greeting in Tungipara of Gopalganj.
At least eight, including Awami League president of Kusholi Union Khosru Mollah, were injured in the incident, which took place at Nilpha Bazar of Tungipara Sunday evening.
Later, the Awami League activists set fire on the house of BNP president of Kusholi Union.
Khosru Mollah and Rabiul were sent to Tungipara Health Complex for medical treatment.
Sohel Fakir were admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital and later sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
The others were released after first aid.
Witnesses said supporters of Tungipara Upazila Juba Dal president Muktar attacked on supporters of Khasru and shortly after both of the groups locked into a clash around 7:30pm which left eight injured from both sides.
Regarding the matter, Tungipara Thana Officer-in-Charge said, the situation is under control as additional police were deployed in the area,
A case was filed in this connection with the Tungipara Thana, he added.
