DHAKA: Mobile phone-operator Robi Axiata Limited incurred Tk 66 crore loss in the 3rd quarter of 2012 due to tax charge while it reported Tk 10,146 million revenue earned.
The disclosure came from a press conference held at corporate office of the Robi on Thursday.
Presenting the Q3 report, Robi Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said, “During the third quarter (Q3) of 2012, Robi continues strong revenue growth primarily driven by new subscribers. However, the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) were impacted by the tax charges.”
He also mentioned that the company has crossed 20 million subscriber bases during the reporting quarter.
Speaking at the press briefing the CFO said, “Robi has made significant contribution to the national exchequer over the years and has actively contributed towards the development of the mobile telecom industry and the economy of the country as well.”
However, the company could not generate enough profit to pay any return to its shareholders since 2006, he added.
The in third quarter revenue growth driven by new subscribers, 18 percent growth in VAS revenue in Q3.
Revenue earning figures this quarter, however, indicate an increase of 29.7 percent from the same period in 2011, and a 5.4 percent increase from the previous quarter (Q2 2012).
According to figures released by the company, Robi has also added 1.6 m subscribers in Q3 of 2012, which is 36 percent higher than the same period of last year.
Chief Financial Officer and Pradeep Shrivastava, Chief Market Officer, Matiul Islam Nowshad Chief Human Resources Officer of Robi were present along with other top officials of the company at the press briefing.
Robi has also enhanced network/BTS distribution, capacity & coverage. Geographical coverage was increased to 89.0 percent with population coverage increasing to 98.7 percent. With the addition of 203 new BTSs in Q3, the total number of BTS stands at 8,595 at the end of Q3, 2012.
The company has also launched innovative value added services in the third quarter; like BIMA- life insurance: free life insurance coverage for the first time in the country for all its prepaid subscribers, Robi radar: SMS based facebook check in service, Islamic contents etc. Moreover, Robi has also offered 250 percent recharge bonus, 10 second pulse, low flat rate packages etc. during the last quarter.
