DHAKA: The High Court Tuesday fixed June 14 for the hearing on a revision petition challenging the celebration of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s birthday on August 15.
An HC bench comprising of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury fixed the date in response to a time plea by defence counsel.
Defence lawyer Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajal said, “Khandakar Mahbub Uddin is the main lawyer of the case and we need more time because he could not be present at court for illness.”
He said, “We need to consult about some matters with the other lawyers that include Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Supreme Court Lawyers’ Association President Joynul Abedin.”
Advocate Suhrawardy filed the case on August 20, 1997 with an Assistant Judge`s court in Dhaka seeking an injunction so that Khaleda Zia could not celebrate her birthday on August 15.
Later in 1999, a civil revision case was filed with the High Court on behalf of Khaleda Zia seeking cancellation of the case.
