DHAKA: Newly elected President of Supreme Court Bar Association Zainul Abedin said he can make the judiciary department free from political pressure if the new secretary helps him.
“The judiciary has been being influenced politically for long. I believe that I will bring change in this tradition if the secretary helps me,” he said.
The president of the Supreme Court Bar Association came up with the assertion in an exclusive interview with banglanews at his Shyamoli residence in the city.
Zainul Abedin of JAOP was elected as president and Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi of SASP won the post of secretary in the annual election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) held on March 21 and 22.
Zainul Abedin said, “I will try my best for the overall development of the judiciary.”
Replying to query on corruption in Supreme Court, he said the corruption would spread everywhere in the country when president or prime minister become corrupts.
The lawyers’ leader also observed that “if they remain free from corruptions, the country will keep free from corruption”. “I am always against corruption,” he said.
The SCBA president again said the political affairs should be kept out of court.
The senior lawyer of the Supreme Court said, “One should remember his limit as our constitution has given us freedom to speak.”
Zainul Abedin was born in Muladi of Barisal district in 1949. He completed his MA degree in Political Science from University of Dhaka.
