FARIDPUR: Asmani, the well known literary character portrayed by ‘Palli Kabi’ Jasimuddin in his poem titled after the protagonist, was buried at family graveyard beside her husband on Saturday afternoon.
Her nanaz-e-janaza was held after Johr prayer at the premises of her house in the district in the day.
Deputy Commissioner of the district Helal Uddin Ahmed, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamruzzaman Selim and Awami League leader Mohtesham Hossain Babor, among others, attended the funerals.
Asmani, the well known literary character portrayed by ‘Palli Kabi’ Jasimuddin in his poem titled after the protagonist, died of old age complications at her house in the district early Saturday.
She was 99. Asmani has two sons and six daughters.
Family source said she passed away around 3:00am at her Rasulpur village house under Eshan Gopalpur union of the district Sadar.
On June 26, she was admitted to Faridpur General Hospital due to brain hemorrhage and high blood pressure.
Later, she was shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) as her condition deteriorated.
The poem ‘Asmani’, symbolising the thousands of poverty stricken little girls with crushed dreams and broken spirits, was published in Jasimuddin’s, ‘Ek Poishar Banshi’ in 1949.
