SATKHIRA: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued 16 fishermen from Dobeki area in Sundarbans on Tuesday.
Their identites could not be known immediately.
West Sundarban Satkhira Range Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Taufiqul Islam said, “Members of Choto
Bahini abducted them along with two trawlers from the area on Monday night.”
He said, “The robbers freed the fishermen finding nothing from their procession.”
Later, a patrolling team of Barisal RAB-8 along with the freed fishermen went on a search for the robbers.
Barisal RAB-8 director Major Rasheduzzaman said, “A special team is conducting drives regarding the matter in Sundarban area.”
He said, “The team is out of mobile network and details regarding the matter will be disclosed later.”
RAB source said acting on tip off, RAB-8 went on a drive to rescue 50 fishermen abducted from Sundarban’s Fairway Boya.
Meanwhile, they are to return on Wednesday.
When contacted, Shyamnagar Thana OC SI Hazrat Ali refused to know anything regarding the matter.
