DHAKA: The ruling Awami League, its associate bodies and other socio-cultural-professional organizations will observe 64th birthday of Sheikh Kamal Sunday.
Elaborate programmes have been chalked out to mark the day
Sheikh Kamal is the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On this day in 1949, Sheikh Kamal was born to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib at Tungipara village in Gopalganj district.
As a Chhatra League leader, he played a vital role in all the movements in the 60s including liberation war in 1971.
Sheikh Kamal was assassinated along with his father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members by some unruly high ambitious army officers in a military putsch on the fateful night on August 15 in 1975.
Leaders and workers of Awami League will lay wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Kamal on the premises of Abahani Club Limited at 9:00am in the city’s Dhanmondi.
Quran Khwani and milad and doa mahfil will be offered at 10:00am at his Banani grave.
Leaders and workers of Awami Swechchasebak League (ASL) will place wreaths at Sheikh Kamal`s portrait on Abahani Club premises at 8.30am and at his Banani grave at 9.30am.
ASL will also organise a milad and doa mahfil on the premises of Bangabandu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi at 10:00am to mark the day.
BCL will also organise a discussion meeting at TSC (Teacher Student Centre) of Dhaka University at 11:00am.
Acting general secretary of Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif urged all including party men to observe Sheikh Kamal`s birthday in a befitting manner.
