DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Thursday categorically said Awami League has restored the flow of democracy overcoming numerous problems.
The premier came up with the statement while addressing a discussion meeting on the occasion of National Mourning Day held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city Thursday.
Hasina asked all to be conscious so that no one can play with the fate of the people snatching the democracy.
Assuming power in 1991, BNP-Jamaat alliance oppressed and tortured people that reminded the period of liberation war of 1971. So, people do not want to make it happen again, she claimed.
Awami League did not emerge from a military junta rather it has been formulated amid movements and struggles.
The incumbent government has held around 5000 polls but no one has questioned about a single one, Hasina defended.
So, why it will not be possible to hold the next general election under political government, she asked.
Awami League Advisory Council member and minister without portfolio Suranjit Sengupta, Adviser Council member Durgadas Bhattacharya, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, M Nasim, AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, AKM Rahmatullah MP, US AL president Dr Siddiqur Rahman and Dhaka City AL President Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, spoke in the meeting.
