DHAKA: The “5th Asian International Trade Expo 2012” kicked off at the bangabandhu international trade centre in the city on Tuesday.
Commerce minister GM Quader was present as the chief guest in the inaugural session while president of American Chambers and Commerce in Bangladesh Aftab Ul Islam and president of Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry Syed Ershad Ahmed as special guest.
Among others, president & group managing director of Cems-Global, USA & Asia-pacific Meherun N. Islam was also present.
In her welcome speech at the opening ceremony, Meherun N. Islam highlighted the importance of this exhibition to promote inter-regional trade between asian countries.
She said, “The markets of USA & EU are on a downward trend and for this reason the `Asian international trade expo’ had been launched 5 years back to promote businesses between Asian nations”.
“In every country, there is a permanent exhibition centre as exhibitions are seen as a networking platform for international business and it is high time that Dhaka should also have its own proper professional exhibition centre, keeping in mind the huge amount of foreign companies participating in Cems-global exhibitions in Dhaka who are focusing on the potential market of Bangladesh.” She added.
The `5th Asian international trade expo 2012’ is the only 8-day exhibition of Bangladesh focused on consumers and also for trade. Such an exhibition displaying products / services is necessary to bring the Asian countries together under one roof which would also increase trade and bilateral relations within the Asian nations.
Over 100 exhibitors from 10 countries with exhibit profile like consumer electronics, communication technology, machineries, food & beverage, healthcare products and service, personal care & beauty products, household products, fashion & accessories, arts & crafts are participating in this exhibition.
Special pavilions are being set up by companies from India & Pakistan. The exhibition is targeted to the entire community of the country and will play an important role by assembling Asian manufacturers here.
