Afghan bureaucrats offered BD training

DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the government is ready to extend its cooperation for training of Afghan civil servants, police personnel and diplomats as well as for creating a pool of skilled workforce.

The foreign minister made the assertion at the Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan held in Tokyo Sunday.

Dr Dipu Moni, in her statement, said Bangladesh firmly believes that the resilient people of Afghanistan would be able to overcome the manifold challenges facing them and establish themselves as politically stable, pluralistic, economically dynamic member of the International community.

She added: “The present government of Bangladesh is taking special efforts to enhancing relation with the neighbours in the South Asia including Afghanistan.”

She added Bangladesh is interested to provide tailor made training programmes in the areas such as banking, disaster management, primary and mass education, health care, agricultural extension, poultry and livestock, youth development with a focus on technical and vocational training .

To this effect, Bangladesh supported every initiative to ease Afghanistan’s involvement into various programmes and initiatives of the SAARC ever since it warmly welcomed Afghanistan into this very South Asian Regional forum.

The Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihiko Noda inaugurated the Conference.

The conference was co-chaired by Koichiro Gemba, Foreign Minister of Japan Dr Zalami Rassoul and Finance Minister of Afghanistan Dr Omar Zakhilwal.  

President Hamid Karzai, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton also attended the gathering.

Ministers from 27 countries as well as representatives from International Organizations and UN Specialized Agencies also took part in the conference.
