DHAKA: The communications ministry on Tuesday formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the shootout incident that left five people injured at Roads and Highways Department in the city.
Meanwhile, the investigation team led by Md Ali, additional chief engineer of RHD, was asked to submit its report within three days.
Earlier in the day, at least five people, including publicity secretary of Central Swechhasebok League Shamim Shahriar, received bullet injury as their rivals allegedly opened fire on them following a long-standing tender dispute.
The other four injured are driver Jakir Hossain, Ripon, Mashiur Rahman and Towhidul Islam.
Contractor of Roads and Highways, also former Chhatra League leader Sheikh Gulam Azam Mamum said, “A group of 35 to 40 armed terrorists backed by Khandaker Kamal Uddin, office assistant of Roads and Highways, suddenly opened fire on us while we were trying to submit our tender letter, leaving five people injured.”
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Officer-in-Charge of Shahbag Thana Sirajul Islam said, “On information, police rushed in, rescued the injured and admitted them to hospital.”
Sources said the attack was a result of the rivalry between Kamal Uddin Khondakar, an office assistant of RHD and general secretary of pro-Awami League Shramik Karmachari Union, and Shamim Shahriar.
