GAZIPUR: A cricket fan was killed and some others were injured in a clash between two groups of people over a cricket match in North Chhayabithy area of the district town on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Sakib Hasan Fiha, 18, son of Kazi Alauddin, of North Chhayabithy area of the district.
Deceased’s relative Atiqur told banglanews, “Sakib went to enjoy cricket match at Sun Shine Pre-Cadet School ground around 8:00pm.”
At one stage, the two cricket teams locked in altercation around 9:00am and chase and counter chase occurred between them. Later, a team left the playground, he added.
But they returned around 9:30 pm and attacked on another team, leaving two or three people injured.
The injured were rushed to Gazipur Sadar Hospital where Sakib succumbed to his injuries around 12:30am.
Joydevpur Thana SI Rezaul Karim told banglanews, “The autopsy of the body has been completed. The case will be filed after burial.”
Police was yet to arrest anybody.
